BlackBerry Thunder ready to take on iPhone 3G!

The full touch-based BlackBerry Thunder 9500 has been awash in rumors online. Now several official photos have leaked to prove that the Thunder is a real deal and it will boast a spanking new Blackberry Touch UI OS.

If you have accidentally felt that you may be riding the tech wave with your super latest high tech mobile phone, RIM might just be able to prove you wrong. While we are still waiting for an official announcement, meet the BlackBerry Thunder.

The BlackBerry Thunder 9500 will run on a new Blackberry OS that's fully touch-centric and will sport a 2.5" 65K color touchscreen TFT display with 360 x 480 pixels resolution. Most importantly it will be a hybrid device, working in GSM and EV-DO networks supporting EDGE/HSDPA and built-in GPS.

Interestingly enough, those press-grade photos leak just days before the Apple iPhone 3G release in what seems to be a Blackberry PR attempt to dissuade some potential iPhone 3G customers. And indeed, it looks like Apple iPhone 3G has got a tough competitor in the face of the BlackBerry Thunder. The latter will run a carrier music store which is similar to the iPhone's iTunes store and will allow users to purchase songs directly from their device.
Internet browsing on BlackBerry Thunder will be significantly improved to match the superb Safari browser in the iPhone. We hope the Thunder will also sport the sweet auto screen rotation feature as well - it's all about accelerometers these days.
The feature-rich device will probably run on the 624 MHz CPU known from the recently announced Blackberry Bold.
The BlackBerry Thunder 9500 will be exclusively available for Verizon and Vodafone customers.

8 Mega Pixel Monster: Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber Shot

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot has managed to create a real stir in the mobile community. It's the first GSM handset that ships with the whopping 8 megapixels worth of camera goodies and such things simply cannot go unnoticed.

You've probably already gone through the news scoop and you know the sweet details - face detection, smart contrast, both a xenon flash and a photo flash, as well as geotagging complete the camera feature set. A 2.4-inch QVGA TFT display with scratch-resistant mineral glass cover will serve you as a viewfinder.

The Sony Ericsson C905 seems like an excellent high-end cameraphone - our old trustworthy 8 megapixel Canon EOS-1D Mark II N is already starting to feel a wee bit threatened. Will it keep its job?

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot also comes with a built-in accelerometer for screen auto rotation, TV-out port, GPS and, wait for it … Wi-Fi support. Yes, that's true wireless networking on a regular feature phone.

And did we also mention the quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, the UMTS and HSDPA support, stereo Bluetooth (that's A2DP for the nerd group), USB and FM radio with RDS? Well, it is a nice feature combo by all standards. And it so happens, that we managed to sneak it for a quick hands-on.

Truth be told, the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot has obviously never heard of diets and healthy food. With a thickness of 18mm (up to 19.5 in its thickest part), it's a seriously fat fella - at least by feature phone standards. There are other really popular smartphones that take the thickness problem even further, but the C905 Cyber-shot is not a smartphone.

Now that being said, some of you are probably going to so hate us for saying this but… the C905 actually looks nice. Some high-quality materials have been used for creating its overweight body and it's crafted flawlessly. We knew we like it as soon as we laid our eyes on it for the first time.

But see what it's worth, a first look is never enough. Hit this small bump on the way to getting to know the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot a little bit better.

  • Nice music player

Main disadvantages:

  • Sizably thick at 21mm
  • External LED display turns off too quickly
  • Camera has no autofocus despite the autofocus inscription around the lens
  • Short battery life

Gresso stuns with White Diamonds collection!

manufacturer of exclusive luxurious GSM handsets, Gresso once again managed to provide a feast for the eye with their latest Avantgarde White Diamonds collection. The ultra expensive cell phones are not for every pocket but they offer unsurpassed originality of design and materials.

We have followed the announcement of the Gresso Luna and Sol mobiles last year, followed by the Black Diamonds collection and finally topped by the Luna and Sol Steel collection which was only recently unveiled in March 2008.

The Russian-based maker Gresso has once again set the bar high with their latest exquisite Avantgarde White Diamonds Collection. The new collection includes two new mobiles called Gresso White Diamonds and Gresso Royal White Diamonds.

The new White Diamonds Collection features the same exquisite design features found in the previous models of the manufacturer - their hand-assembled body panels are made out of 200-year old African blackwood, the keyboards have a base plate made of titanium, their stainless steel battery cover has a magnetic lock plus leather and gold decoration.

The displays of the two new Gresso handsets are covered by 42K sapphire crystal glass, their keys are made out of 18K gold and as a signature feature - all the numbers on the keypad are laser-cut in Roman style.

The Gresso Royal White Diamonds is the more expensive one of the two. Only 200 units will be produced making it a limited edition handset (though we highly doubt that any of the Gresso ultra expensive models enters mass production). All of its 23 gold keys are crowned with a total of 2.53K of white diamonds. It will be priced at 33000 euro.

The Gresso White Diamond handset has only its navigation keys encrusted with white diamonds. Therefore it would get the more mundane price of 9000 euro.

All Gresso handsets feature a tri-band GSM support, a 65K color TFT display QVGA resolution, a microSD memory card slot and a 2 megapixel camera. They all run on Windows Mobile 6 Standard. The new White Diamonds handsets measure at 119,5 x 48 x 14 mm.

The Gresso Avantgarde White Diamonds collection will be presented at JCK Las Vegas Show, the leading jewellery fair in the USA, that will take place from May 30 to June 3, 2008.

LG KF700 preview: First look

LG KF700 codenamed LG Virgo is among the latest LG multimedia full touch devices. It stands out with multiple control-and-navigation methods. LG KF700 puts together a 3" touchscreen display, a slide-out standard keypad and a side mounted scroll wheel with an adjacent OK key. And still, the KF700 is a rather compact device, which reminds a lot of the LG Prada. The fashionable Prada however easily gets blown out by the LG KF700.

Key features

  • Tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE plus HSDPA 7.2Mbps
  • 3 megapixel autofocus camera
  • Secondary camera for video calls
  • 3" 262K-color TFT touchscreen display with 240x480 pixels resolution
  • Touch feedback (haptics)
  • FM radio
  • Stereo Bluetooth
  • Sliding hardware keypad
  • Side scroll wheel with an OK key

The LG KF700 we had for a few short days was a pre-release beta version and so we decided to do a quick and dirty preview instead a full review. Some features (or disadvantages) may be subject to change in the retail unit, so we decided not to rush a full review.

The LG KF700 has a remarkably responsive user interface, fashionable looks and strives to conquer most of the multimedia applications you might want in a mobile phone. The three input methods are diverse enough for you to find your preference. However, all the three types are rather fused - the only one you could go without is the scroll wheel. The touchscreen display does the job for most tasks, but you need the keypad to enter text. The keypad is useless on its own too, because it has no D-pad.
